Barry’s Garage Autoglym car valet steps

Whatever the level of car valet detailing you are planning, Barry’s Garage has the recommendations to help you with cleaning your car with Autoglym products

It may also be useful for you to look through the photos of Barry in action carrying out a full car valet covering “the before pictures“, interior valet, wheels, bodywork, polishing and protection, finishing touches


Regular Clean and Polish (every week or so)

  1. Start with the interior of the vehicle, with microfibre cloth, wipe the dashboard, instrument panel, centre console

  2. Vacuum the interior,floor mats, boot etc

  3. Rinse the exterior of the vehicle with a hose, or waterblaster, add Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo to water in bucket,wash the vehicle with the Bodywork Shampoo

  4. Use Autoglym Clean Wheels & Hi Tech Wheel Brush to clean the wheel rims and spokes

  5. Rinse the vehicle with a hose trying to “flood with water” and then wipe the excess water off the vehicle with Autoglym Flexi Water Blade

  6. Dry the rest of the water off the vehicle with a Micro-fibre towel or chamois

  7. Apply Autoglym Fast Glass to windows & mirrors, (both inside and out)

  8. Treat the bumpers with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber

  9. Treat tyres with Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing

  10. Spray Autofresh into footwells and boot of the vehicle


Six monthly (thorough top to bottom)

  1. Carry out all of the above steps as you would for your normal detailing routine then;

  2. Clean the engine bay using any spray on degreaser product and rinse using a garden hose only (not a pressure washer).

    Pro Tip: Use Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing as an engine bay dressing

  3. Apply Autoglym Interior Shampoo to the seats (if cloth or vinyl)

  4. If your upholstery is leather then clean with Autoglym Leather Cleaner and then treat with Autoglym Leather Care Balm to preserve the life of your leather upholstery

  5. Once your vehicle has been washed with Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo and dried, then use Autoglym Super Resin Polish to polish your paintwork

  6. Then seal the polish with Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection

  7. Spray your alloy wheels with Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal to make it easier to clean your wheels next time and to help them stay clean for longer


Concourse Competition Quality

  1. All of the steps above for both the regular and six monthly detailing routine plus:

  2. Apply a higher level of polish starting with Autoglym Claybar

  3. Then apply Autoglym High Definition Wax to all the bodywork

  4. Remove all the wheels and clean the inside of the wheel rim and also inside the wheel arches

  5. Remember to take Autoglym Rapid Detailer and some Micro-fibre towels with you for those last minutes fine touches and removal of sticky finger prints
